It is critical that forensic mental health services are evaluated with the goal of continual improvement, in order to foster any potential benefits in client care and staff wellbeing. This baseline study took place at a Low Secure Unit based within Carmarthenshire; with the participants consisting of members of staff who had patient contact. The aims of this study were to take baseline measures of staff perceptions of the social climate of the ward, their levels of compassion satisfaction, burnout/resilience and compassion fatigue; staff understanding of concepts surrounding compassion-focused care; exploration of the baseline measures; exploration of potential improvements in order to increase wellbeing and resilience within the team.
